Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

Item upgrade, also called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment increases the stat linearly.
Players can recycle six items at one time to get a gauge of each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items increases according to their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be achieved through a variety of methods such as using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity or mark level. In addition, many items can be reforged, which can increase their stats.
You can purchase upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available throughout the world as well as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. Upgrade components are the primary method to upgrade equipment. These are items that can slot into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with upgrade slots, and the majority require a certain upgrade level. Some upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer general bonuses.
There are a variety of upgrade components available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, such as gems and enchantments, are able to be put in any kind of equipment and offer fewer bonuses than those that are equipment-type specific. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools and offer a variety of benefits, from increasing the speed of the item's collection to providing extra crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, simply select it from your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. It will show the expected statistics after the upgrade. If you don't have enough of either the upgrade button will show as Blocked.
The upper-right side of the screen shows the number of upgrade components required for the specific item. The cost of an upgrade increases with the upgrade level and rarity, but it can be reduced using a variety of methods, including purchasing upgrades at a merchant or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be improved by a prefix such as a rune, or an insignia, and others can be enhanced with the suffix. These upgrades add an adjective to the name of the item like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to communicate visual information. They animate in order to grab the viewer's eye and stimulate curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language, making them more effective in transmitting the message of a language barrier. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.
Each glyph increases the value of a stat by specific amount. This is displayed on the item, when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This isn't the exact amount at the glyph can increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount by which it is able to do so. The value of the glyph depends on the tier and the quality of the item that you are admiring.
The majority of upgrade components that are added to items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary upgrades and equipment. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use but it hasn't been applied to gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
You can take out the glyph using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is placed will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be recovered with the glyph shards.
Adding a glyph to an item could cause it to become unstable and the shards of the glyph will disappear from your inventory once you take it down. You can also apply a glyph to your equipment to add an additional benefit. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and then be dealt out slowly to the wearer instead of all at once. This is helpful for players who take many hits from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens let players change the affixes of their equipment and weapons, and can be found in a variety of ways, including in mistery boxes or as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with a random affix that is generally better than the one they had before. Reroll tokens are also a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon, which can be upgraded to provide better damage or other perks.
Items that have been rerolled may not appear in the item upgrade menu, however they can still receive upgrades. If you click the "upgrade button" you can recycle these items that have been rerolled. This will change the layout of the item's window and let up to six items to be chosen to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its gauge of level. This amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its level, therefore higher-level items are more useful to recycle than lower-level ones.
In addition to reroll tokens players can also use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the Weapon Traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls will determine the % chance of a weapon trait; if it rolls higher, the weapon will be upgraded. If it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolling is a great way to upgrade an item. However, players should be aware of the fact that the total ilvl is diminished by the number of the rerolls required to bring it to the final level. This reduction effect is most effective on Diadems and rings that do not have any alternatives to raise their ilvls.
Some players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It's more fair to allow players to pay for it with cash or food items, which will allow players to make adjustments to their builds without having to invest too much time. The developers do not plan to implement paid rerolls at this stage of the game's development. Instead, they're planning to include an ability to change races in the near future.
Leveling
There are a number of ways to boost the value of an upgrade to an item. The first way to level up an upgrade to an item is to increase the amount of upgrade. This boosts the upgrade value for a stat. The second is to boost the effect of upgrading which increases the healing or damage of a given stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. Once this is done the new item will keep its iLevel, but will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded item type.
It is important to remember that upgrades are random. In the majority of cases, a better roll is based on the glyphs. However, there are times where a higher or more special roll could occur. The type of the item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a special kind of item, it has a chance of receiving an upper level.
The cost of upgrading items can be expensive, particularly when you're upgrading a piece of gear from the normal to the legendary track. The price will depend on the item's iLevel base and the amount of upgrade levels it offers. Certain upgrade tracks require crests to be completed in order to move on to the next level.
If you're lucky, your upgraded item will be at the highest level on its upgrade track and unlock an additional bonus effect. This will give you a substantial increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level, though. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased by +3.
The iLevel can also change depending on the item's upgrade path and its base level. For instance an item upgraded from being a rare or exclusive item to an extraordinary one is likely to gain the Enhanced Defense of the new base item.
